Picture the Cartesian Coordinate plane, or x-y plane, as a map of a city's streets. Locating a point on the plane is as easy as finding the corner of 7th Street and Main Street if you know how.

Take two number lines- a horizontal number line known as the x-axis and a vertical number line known as the y-axis- and cross them. You've just created the Cartesian Coordinate plane, a two dimensional space where we can visualize the mathematical relationship created by equations with 2 variables.
